Our local group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is based in Barnstaple and currently has around one hundred members.

As part of the 'Skill for Life' package, you may join your local group as an Associate, which entitles you to Observed Driving Sessions conducted by a Group Observer who will advise you regarding your driving and help you reach the Advanced Driving Test standard.

As an Associate you also can attend all Group activities and receive our quarterly Newsletter.

Rather than taking the Advanced Driving Test straightaway, a Group Observer can assess your driving skills when taking 'DriveCheck' or 'DriveCheck55'  driving assessment. 

Alternatively, to see advanced driving techniques at first hand, a Demonstration Drive given by the group's Senior Observer will also be available at our Summer Drive meetings.

Group meetings are held at 7.00pm on the second Wednesday of each month at Platform One, Old Town Station, Castle Street, Barnstaple.

Members are welcome to bring along their family and/or friends to our group meetings or other events.
