The Institute of Advanced Motorists was founded in 1956 and is now the UK's leading road safety charity dedicated to raising driving and riding standards through the Advanced Driving Test, engaging with the road-using public and influencing road safety policy. There are currently around 100,000 IAM members and over 200 IAM affiliated groups nationally.
ADVANCED TEST
The IAM Advanced Driving Test is available to drivers of motor
cars, motorcycles, three wheelers and commercial vehicles. Statistics show
that those who have passed the Institute's Advanced Driving Test have had their chances of being
involved in a collision reduced by two thirds.
SKILL FOR LIFE
You can join the IAM as an Associate through the 'Skill for Life' programme, upgrading to full membership upon passing the
Advanced Driving Test within 12 months.

MOMENTUM
The IAM
has recently launched Momentum; a new
two-part assessment for the younger driver.
Momentum is designed for 17-25 year olds
who have passed their driving test, and incorporates
two modules: an interactive online assessment,
followed by an on-road session with an IAM examiner.
Momentum does not involve an exam and there
is no risk of failure; it offers a quick, low-cost option for improving the
confidence, awareness and safety of younger drivers.
